Healthy Alternative Colonoscopy Prep Ideas

I for one didn’t have a good experience with standard of care colonoscopy prep as it caused severe GI distress, disrupted my gut microbiome, and it took 1-2 weeks for my bowel movements to normalize. I also strongly advise against phosphate-based laxatives as they can cause serious kidney issues.

Here is an alternative idea to consider, but please work with your personal physician to determine the best preparation plan for you.

1. Eat a fiber free diet for 48 hours prior to test.

2. Get a “closed system” colonic within 1-2 hours of the procedure. Be sure that the water runs clear.

You can also discuss not doing anesthesia, so you have less side effects. I’ve heard most gastroenterologists don’t use anesthesia, so that is saying something.
